Fragrance & Sensuality: What I Wear When I Want to Feel Sexy

I recently made a horny fragrance guide, and while it was very fun, it got me thinking more about sensuality and fragrance. So I decided to put together a list of what I actually wear when I want to feel sexy—whether I'm trying to seduce someone, tease them, or just connect with my own sensual side. For me there's such power in my sensuality, and fragrance is absolutely linked to that. My sensuality is very femme-centric and tends toward elevated sophistication. I feel most sexually empowered when I feel smart, funny, and in touch with my own desires and needs. Here are my favorites, plus some tips for finding your sensual fragrance at the end. Happy smelling babes!

Black Tie by Celine perfume bottle with mood board featuring martini glass, red velvet lounge, and sophisticated bar setting - sensual vanilla fragrance

Black Tie by Celine

Black Tie by Celine feels like the exact encapsulation of all my femme4femme fantasies. It feels like lipstick on the rim of a martini coupe. Like sitting in a plush swivel chair with soft glow lights and the hum of other couples at the bar. It's utterly chic. This is perhaps what I initially reach for when I want to feel more in touch with my sensual side, although I also wear it whenever.

While it's often sold out, it's for good reason. It's got a very nice projection. It has notes of white orris butter, cedar, tree moss, vanilla, and musk. Though overwhelmingly I would say it is a vanilla fragrance, but a much more elevated one. I think some of the tree moss and musk help it from going incredibly juvenile. I have seen some decants floating around, and would recommend trying it before purchasing. In all honesty it's one of the few designer brand fragrances I truly enjoy. Peak luxury.

Tears by Régime des Fleurs eau de parfum with gothic aesthetic mood board - floral musk sensual fragrance for spring

Tears by Régime des Fleurs

For when I want to feel like an incredibly polished type of sensuality I reach for this. There's something that feels a bit tortured about it. A goth melancholy kind of sensuality, almost a yearning. I wear it and I quite literally feel like someone is going maddened for me when wearing it. Now personally I do think it's best in spring months, given its somewhat floral and dewy leanings.

Its notes include musk, ambergris, lilac, orris, mandarin, orange flower, green cognac, and pink pepper. Tears has a nice projection—it's strong but not overpowering. People smell you but they aren't sick of you. That being said it is a fragrance that lingers for quite a few hours, upwards of eight. Here’s a decant

Fire by The Maker eau de parfum with vintage hotel lobby fireplace aesthetic - woody boozy vanilla sensual fragrance

Fire by The Maker

Listen, I've got a thing for being in a beautiful hotel, five star obviously. This perfume feels like sitting by the fire in a small boutique hotel lobby and flirting. I do think this is a very cozy type of intimacy, much softer and sweeter than some of the others on the list.

It has this really beautiful way of being both woody, boozy, and just a bit sweet. It's got notes of juniper berry, tobacco accord, and vanilla. Similar to other fragrances from this brand I think it has an exceptional projection and wear time. It's usually got a wear of about five or six hours on skin. I treat this fragrance as one I wear solo, but also use as a layering option for when I want to make something feel more sensual. Here’s a decant, but they also have a discovery set of all their fragrances!

Whiskey 1969 by Thin Wild Mercury perfume with rock and roll aesthetic mood board - raspberry bourbon amber edgy sensual fragrance

Whiskey 1969 by Thin Wild Mercury

When I wanna feel dangerous, this is what I wear. It's sharp and pointed, demanding. It's straight to the point. I love how it pairs with a leather jacket, and it's my favorite to wear when I want to feel a gritty type of sexy. It's meant to pay homage to rock clubs of the past on the sunset strip.

This perfume has notes of pink pepper, cardamom, raspberry, nutmeg, ylang ylang, cedarwood, and bourbon amber. On first spritz the raspberry comes through pretty heavy for me, until about 30 minutes when it becomes a bourbon amber with woody nutmeg notes. It's a very versatile scent—I think it can go trashy or chic, depending on the mood. It also makes a really exceptional layering option. Here’s a decant

Gris Charnel by BDK Parfums with power woman CEO aesthetic mood board - fig black tea iris sensual fragrance

Gris Charnel by BDK Parfums

If Nicole Kidman's character Romy in Babygirl wore niche fragrances this would be it. While personally I don't care much for the movie, I think it does a compelling enough job of portraying a powerful woman who likes to live dangerously. This perfume encapsulates this really mature type of sexuality.

Its notes include fig, black tea, cardamom, iris absolute, and bourbon vetiver. Overwhelmingly though it is a tea and figgy fragrance. It's very clean and delicate. I love this fragrance, but I do think its wear time isn't the best—I get a few hours out of it on skin, and I do really wish it lasted a bit longer. Here’s a decant!

L'Ivrée Bleue by Ormaie Paris perfume with Studio 54 disco aesthetic - rum cacao vanilla sensual summer fragrance

L'Ivrée Bleue by Ormaie Paris

Moving directions to something SMOLDERING. This perfume feels like the dead heat of summer, a kind of smoldering sensuality that you could find on a crowded dancefloor. In a way it reminds me of what I imagine summer romps at Studio 54 would feel like. Alas, a woman can dream.

There's a loud confidence that comes with this. Its notes include rum, mandarin, lily, violet, orris, vanilla, patchouli, benzoin, and cacao. It is overwhelmingly a cacao fragrance to me. Which interestingly enough feels very versatile. Like it has this warm spot in winter that feels cozy and somewhat Christmassy. But then it takes on a whole other life form in summer, it's sensual and feels like this very intense hot passion. Here’s a decant!

Sandalwood by Heretic perfume with vintage 1950s Carol aesthetic - Bulgarian rose sandalwood woody sensual fragrance

Scandalwood by Heretic

When I want to feel like a very old school type of feminine sexuality I reach for this. There's something so powerful about it. It feels a bit like something Carol from Carol would wear. This very polished type of sexuality. Red almond nails, hosiery, fur stoles, and cherry red lipstick feel.

It's got this woody floral feel to it with notes of cedar, coriander, Bulgarian rose, labdanum, sandalwood, and white musk. Now it is a rose fragrance, but not your typical rose. It's a bit more spicy and grounded. While there isn't any oud in it, it does feel like an oudy rose. So if power dynamics with a younger lesbian are your thing, you'll probably like this. Here’s a decant!

Architects Club by Arquiste perfume with mid-century modern interior aesthetic - juniper bergamot vanilla sophisticated sensual fragrance

Architects Club by Arquiste

Is there anything more erotic than an evening of stimulating conversation, followed by… well, dealer's choice? This fragrance is perfect for that. It's sophisticated but unassuming. It doesn't try too hard, yet it's impressive. This is my go to for days where I want to feel sexy and cool, but also don't want to try too hard.

Now I don't find it to be particularly strong, so it is one that I really have to layer up on and refresh. As for its notes, they include juniper berry oil, angelica root, bitter orange, bergamot, French clary sage, lavender, pink peppercorn, pepperwood, cardamom, coriander, black currant, iris, oak wood, cedar wood, and vanilla absolute. It can end up leaning a bit vanilla, but there's still this bergamot that comes through very notably. Here’s a decant!

lack Magenta by D.S. & Durga perfume with edgy chess game aesthetic - pink pineapple tobacco amber untamed sensual fragrance

Black Magenta by D.S. & Durga

The best word I would say to describe this is untamed. It's edgy and likes to push boundaries and buttons. Very much a loud bratty perfume. But even in all that there is something very warm and endearing. It can be an agent of chaos and a grounding force.

It's a little sweet, a little fruity, just a pinch of green. Notes include pink pineapple, galbanum, black pepper, orris concrete, magenta dianthus, orange flower, black amber, Balkan tobacco, and sandalwood. It starts sweet and I get the pineapple very predominantly. But on that dry down that ambery tobacco comes through. Here’s a decant!

Anna from HoneyWhippedFeta in red feather dress with red lipstick - sensual fragrance guide author and fragrance expert

At the end of the day, your sensual fragrance has to make you feel something first. Not your date, not the person across the bar. Ask yourself: what kind of sexy do you want to inhabit? The kind that commands a room? The kind that whispers? The kind that fucks on the first date or makes them wait a month? Your scent should be in conversation with that version of yourself.

And honestly? Exploring fragrance and exploring your sexuality aren't that different. Both require you to know what you want, trust your instincts, and not be afraid to try something that might not work. They also require you to be incredibly in connection with your own sexuality—if you're looking for more on that, I've written about it [here].

If you're looking to find your own sensual signature, here's what I've learned through years of collecting and experimenting:

Sample in different contexts. A fragrance that feels sexy at 2pm in a coffee shop might hit completely different at 10pm in dim lighting. Test scents when you're actually in the mood you want to capture, not just when wandering a store.

Layer without fear. Some of my most intoxicating combinations came from experimenting. Try layering a vanilla with a leather, or a floral with something boozy. The goal is to create something that feels uniquely, undeniably you.

Consider your sensual desires. Are you a seductress? A tease? Sophisticated and untouchable? Warm and inviting? Dominant and demanding? Your fragrance should align with the energy you want to embody.

Skin chemistry is complicated. What smells like bourbon and tobacco on me might go full candy-sweet on you. Always sample on your actual skin and give it time to develop. What you smell in the first 15 minutes is not the whole story.

Invest in decants first. Niche fragrances are expensive. Sites like Scent Split and individual sellers on Reddit's fragrance exchange offer affordable decants. Test before you commit to a full bottle.
