Fall is by far my favorite time of year. There's this cool and crisp energy in the air that I adore. I think most people feel like fall is a time for home scents that are pumpkin or apple filled, which quite frankly aren't my vibe. I vastly prefer woody and resinous scents that tend to lean a little moody. I've compiled a list of some of my favorite candles for the season that will fill your space with a little warmth. Aggiassos Candle by The Naxos Apothecary
Notes: Cinnamon, Clove, Orange Peel, Toffee, Candied Fruit, Myrrh, Milky Notes, Sandalwood
This was my favorite candle of all of 2025, it's just so exceptional! It feels very ancient, mostly from the myrrh and clove, which also make it go somewhat witchy. It transitions from fall to winter really nicely, like it just manages to so perfectly encapsulate this kind of occult vibe that you only feel in November. It somewhat feels almost like a church in some ways, so just imagine some gothic Catholic imagery. When you mix in the candied fruit and cinnamon it almost goes holiday, but not fully.
I really love how warm it feels, and how it just completely fills a space. Throughout burning my entire house just became filled with it. I'll also say that the vessel is the stuff of my Greek goth dreams, it's got lovely hints of gold lettering in it that make it feel really special. This candle is by far one of my favorites in my collection, it's beautiful and complex, yet very comforting. It makes a great option for hosting, decorating your tree, or just relaxing after a long day.
Leather Appointment by Flamingo Estate
Notes: Bitter Orange Zest, Green Mandarin, Ambrette Seed, Suede, Leather, Orris Butter, Petitgrain, Cedar, Sandalwood, Oakmoss, Vanilla
Pure luxury in a candle. This candle feels like the inside of a Hermès store, but if you're like me, it also reminds you of all your favorite types of indiscretions.
It might seem like there's a lot going on, but everything balances out. The bitter orange allows for a freshness and stays mostly at the top, the leather has this warm worn-in feeling, and the vanilla and oakmoss keep it very luxe yet comforting. I would consider this a softer throw than some of Flamingo Estate's other scents. I used it in my dining room and it stayed pretty contained in there. Still very nice, and worthy of the indulgent price tag, as it really does encapsulate luxury.
Mohawk Street by Wilkin & May
Notes: Nutmeg, Musk, Amber, Woods, Sandalwood
This candle deeply reminds me of the song "Common People" by Pulp, it's nostalgic and elevated. It feels very high meets low.
A warm woods scent, it feels very classic and a bit sophisticated. Yet there's a note in there, perhaps the nutmeg or musk, that makes it feel kind of worn in. There's a bit of a smolder to it as well that keeps it interesting. It reminds me of the song in that it's got these underlying notes like woods and sandalwood that always tend to feel clean and sophisticated, but the name, Mohawk Street, lends itself to something a bit more common. The song itself is a criticism of the generationally wealthy trying to feel more common. I wouldn't say this candle is trying to do that, but for some odd reason the collision of notes reminds me of it. It also comes in a room spray and a roll-on oil.
Cafecito con Leche by Valorosa
Notes: Coffee, Butter, Sugar, Caramel, Cream, Vanilla, Tonka Bean
I am so excited to have just found this brand. Its burn is so clean, its throw is wonderful, and its fragrances are incredible. While I have a few favorites like Horchata, this one is a notable standout.
It's warm, and while it's overwhelmingly a coffee candle, the sugar and vanilla make it just a bit sweet. I burned this candle while writing this early in the morning and I quite adored it, it feels very productive. I think it could really be nice for moments where you find yourself feeling reflective or nostalgic. The warm throw on this is very nice, it filled my office and lingered into the dining room.
Carta d'Armenia Burning Papers by Santa Maria Novella
Now, I love these for any season. In part for their scent, in part for their almost ritualistic nature, and in part for the heritage of the brand. Santa Maria Novella, whose fragrances began in the year 1221, has quite the history, and something about these burning papers allows all of it to just cultivate right in your home.
It's very resinous and warm. Lighting them is quite fun: you fold one up a bit, light it, gently blow it out, and allow it to smolder until the paper turns to ash. What's left is a smell that fills the space for around 45 to 60 minutes. I love these because they feel somewhat like a cleanse, the burning aspect feels almost witchy and, dare I say, Catholic? These make for a great option for helping set the day off right, or for after you clean your space. I also really enjoy it right before a bath, as when the smell is gone I know it’s time to get out.
Library in a Forest by The New Savant
Notes: Pine Needles, Citrus, Cool Mint, Book Pages, Sweet Pine Sap, Earthy Patchouli, Blue Spruce Bark, Leather Accord, Red Cedar
Perhaps the most grounded and traditionally mystical on the list, this candle is made for vibrant imaginations. It's borderline witchy, it feels a bit like a small cabin in the woods filled with herbs and books. When the notes come together they feel very earthy. It starts a bit piney at first, then after about 30 or 40 minutes of burning those woody, leathery notes come in, making for something so charming.
I've found that all of The New Savant's candles are exceptional, a total bang for your buck. Their scents are nuanced without being pretentious. They recently redid their packaging, so I'm eager to see how it performs.
Earl Grey Bitters by Apotheke
Notes: Tea, Tea Leaves, Lemon, Peonies
There's a point during fall where everything lines up perfectly. The air is just crisp enough, the leaves are vibrant shades of orange and brown, the sky looks mysterious, and it all just feels kismet. It's comforting. This fragrance so wonderfully encapsulates that, it's cozy but still crisp.
The tea notes make it feel warm and inviting, while the lemon keeps it fresh, then the peonies come in and make it feel a bit elevated. This isn't like a cozy cottage kind of vibe, but rather a freshly washed crisp cotton sheets after a rainstorm kind of feel. The overall throw is very mild and pleasant, and I appreciate that it comes in candle, diffuser, and room spray form, as well as in soap and lotion, and a fragrance pod in collaboration with Pura. I do have a Pura diffuser and absolutely adore it!
City of Night by Tatine
Notes: Leather, Whiskey, Vetiver, Hinoki, Cypress
Let's end strong and mysterious (hot) with one of my favorite candle brands, Tatine. I love their clean burn candles and their vessels. The brand is somewhat goth and moody, and based out of Chicago, so it checks a lot of personal boxes. This one is a standout from the brand, and has a stronger throw than others in the lineup.
This candle specifically is inspired by Jim Morrison. It's certainly mysterious but in some way very familiar. The hinoki and whiskey really come through for me. There's something about it that feels very warm and sensual, but like Lenny Kravitz pants kind of rock and roll sexy. I have found the cold pull to be a little meh, but with the strike of a match and 10 minutes of burn, the scent easily filled my living room. Perfect for an evening in with someone special.
The Set: Discovery Set by Hazeltine
I am not familiar with this brand, but I am very intrigued by some of their scents, and I think this cute little eight mini tin candle set is perfect for exploring the brand.
I'm particularly intrigued by Saint Enzo, with notes of bergamot, lemon leaf, black tea, sea salt, suede, and ash. I love anything with tea notes, so I feel like this one could just be perfect and refreshing. Night of Joy, which serves as a love note to New Orleans, seems exceptional with notes of osmanthus, apricot, jasmine, and oakmoss. To add to some very intriguing scents, I quite admire the artwork on the packaging. It's bold yet somewhat minimalistic, well, at least what I consider minimalist.
